SIGNS OF LIFE:
FOUND HEARTS

My practice extends beyond the studio. Through my photography of naturally occurring hearts, I document the dialogue between the physical world and the spiritual realm. These found symbols serve as the heartbeat of my work, confirming that the healing I seek in my art is reflected in the world around me.

All of these hearts found me. They are not staged, retouched or enhanced in any way. They started appearing in my life around 2011 -- or at least that's when I started noticing them. Several years ago, I went to a spiritual medium who, early on in the appointment, asked me about all the hearts she was seeing around me. She said it was my younger sister—who died in 1979 when she was only a teenager—letting me know she is always with me. I gained enormous comfort from that because her death was one of the most tragic and devastating events of my life.

If my Goddesses are the house I built for my soul, these hearts are the messages delivered to my door. Captured in the wild, these found symbols are a dialogue with my sister—reminders that even in the most neglected spaces, Love is a persistent sign of life.
