THE SOVEREIGNS OF THE SOUL: GODDESSES
Swiss psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, equated the Goddess/Mother Goddess archetype with the unconscious, the infinite creativity deep within the psyche that connects all of us to each other and to the universe as a whole. Jungian analyst, John P. Dourley warned that, “culturally we are an uprooted people because we have lost living touch with her vivifying and unifying energies.”
My work is an act of spiritual archaeology. These Goddesses represent the excavation and construction of my new self. They are but one facet of the multimedia archive of a life reclaimed. I create them not as distant icons to be worshipped, but as mirrors of a resurrected self. Using a meticulous, almost obsessive process involving thousands of micro-beads, sequins, hand-painted seeds, pins, wire, heirloom jewelry and other found objects, I reconstruct the fragmented parts of the female experience into a unified, sacred whole.
