About my work

Visual patterns have been part of my creative process since early childhood when I struggled as a lefty kid to learn the Palmer method of handwriting. As an adult, I have relied on patterns to bring balance and meaning to my often-hectic life, and tried to learn from those that occur in my habits and relationships.

Much of my artwork is based on the meaningful patterns that emerge from ancient and universal systems of divination such as the I Ching, Runes and astrological charts. Like every other system in the universe, underlying the apparently random, chaotic events of life, are order, structure and meaning. One “casts” an I Ching “hexagram” or reads a Rune just as one throws the dice. But while the symbol on the dice tells us whether we have “won,” or “lost,” the symbols found in these ancient yet universal constructs tell us “why”. Mandalas and astrological charts provide a road map or snapshot of the universe so that one can navigate the sometimes treacherous waters of the unconscious.

Note: Ordering information was just added, so some orders may take a little longer to process. I appreciate your understanding and patience as I get operations up and running. If you have questions about specific pieces, please email me at mariecorfield@mariecorfield.com.
