Mandalas
Wikipedia defines a Mandala as a concentric, circular drawing that has spiritual and ritual significance. In Buddhist meditation it is used to focus attention, as a spiritual teaching tool, and for establishing a sacred space. In Tibetan Buddhism, mandalas are often created as sand paintings. The great 20th Century psychoanalyst Carl Jung saw mandalas as “a representation of the unconscious self,” and believed his paintings of mandalas enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness. In common use, the mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically.
Each mandala I create is an act of meditation. I start with a rough idea in my head, but ultimately I let the process carry me through to the completed image.
